There was a young girl who took some Prozac, I don’t know why she took the Prozac

I was prescribed Prozac when I was fourteen because I was sad. I didn’t see the point any more of studying for my Talmud exam which, if you are a private school Jew, is akin to a major depressive episode. I took the Prozac, except it made me terribly restless, unable to sit still and focus on my work.

I don’t know why I took the Prozac,
It made me jumpy,
No better than grumpy.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Zoloft to help with the restlessness that was caused by the Prozac that was prescribed for my sadness. I took the Zoloft, except it made me really sleepy,  leaving me too tired to study for my Talmud exam even if I wanted to.

I don’t know why I took the Zoloft,
It made me sleepy,
No better than weepy.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Paxil to help with the sleepiness that was caused by the Zoloft that was to help with the restlessness that was caused by the Prozac that was prescribed for my sadness. I took the Paxil but it gave me a horrible stomach ache, making it too difficult to sit through my university classes.

I don’t know why I took the Paxil,
It gave me pain,
No better than a foggy brain.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Celexa, to help with the abdominal pain that was caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Celexa but it made me incredibly nauseous, making it difficult to leave the bathroom and study for my finals.

I don’t know why I took the Celexa,
It made me queasy,
No better than uneasy.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Anafranil, to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help with the abdominal pain that was caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the  sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Anafranil but it made me dizzy, making it difficult to write my term papers.

I don’t know why I took the Anafranil,
It made me dizzy,
No better than fizzy.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Remeron, to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help with the abdominal pain was caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Remeron but it made me really anxious, making me really nervous for even my mid-terms.

I don’t know why I took the Remeron,
It made me jittery,
No better than feeling bitterly.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Lexapro, to help with the anxiety caused by the Remeron, to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was  to help with the abdominal pain caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Lexapro but it made my heart beat really fast, making it difficult to sit through my law school classes.

I don’t know why I took the Lexapro,
It made my chest flutter,
No better than feeling in the gutter.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Cipralex, to help with the increased heart rate caused by the Lexapro that was to help with the anxiety caused by the Remeron, that was to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help  with the abdominal pain caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Cipralex but I lost my appetite completely and started losing too much weight, making it difficult to keep up at work.

I don’t know why I took the Cipralex,
I couldn’t eat,
No better than feeling defeat.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Wellbutrin, to help with the loss of appetite that was caused by the Cirpralex that was to to help with the increased heart rate caused by the Lexapro, that was to help with the anxiety caused by the Remeron, that was to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help with the abdominal pain caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness. I took the Wellbutrin which gave me terrible hives all over my arms and legs, forcing me to excuse myself to scratch.

I don’t know why I took the Wellbutrin,
It made me itchy,
No better than bitchy.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Effexor, to help with the hives that were caused cause by the Wellbutrin, that was to  help with the loss of appetite caused by the Cirpralex, that was to to help with the increased heart rate caused by the Lexapro that was to help with the anxiety caused by the Remeron, that was to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help with the abdominal pain caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness.  I took the Effexor but it made me depressed, making it difficult to leave the house.

I don’t know why I took the Effexor,
It made me sad,
No better than feeling bad.

I went back to the doctor who prescribed me Prozac, to help with the sadness that was caused by the Effexor, that was to help with the hives that were caused cause by the Wellbutrin, that was to help with the loss of appetite  caused by the Cirpralex, that was to to help with the increased heart rate caused by the Lexapro, that was to help with the anxiety caused by the Remeron, that was to help with the dizziness caused by the Anafranil, that was to help with the nausea caused by the Celexa, that was to help with the abdominal pain caused by the Paxil, that was to help with the sleepiness caused by the Zoloft, that was to help with the restlessness caused by the Prozac, that was to help with my sadness.

I don’t want to take the Prozac,
I would like to close this drug door shut,
But if not this, then what?

I’ve tried yoga, deep breathing, meditation, acupuncture, herbs and tea,
When do I finally say sadness and anxiety, well, they’re just me?

I don’t know. I just don’t know.
